Reiki
I
learned Reiki in 2009 as I felt that it is a helpful technique
to know. However I am keeping it separate on line and
so I am sending you through to my friend and teacher,
Elizabeth McCabe's, web site. Elizabeth is a Reiki Master
and is a very dedicated professional and humanitarian,
I have known her for over 25 years. If you are looking for
someone who can do Reiki, either for the actual technique
or as a teacher you could do no better than Elizabeth.
Reiki
is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Force Energy.
In Chinese this energy is called Chi as in Tai Chi. The
origin of Reiki can be traced back to ancient Tibet, thousands
of years ago. This technique was re-discovered in the
mid 1800s by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan and brought to the
U.S. by Mrs. Hawayo Takata of Hawaii in 1930s.
Reiki
is a non-invasive technique. There is no manipulation
of muscles; there is no need to remove clothing. Healing
can be done on one spot where tension or pain is concentrated
or on the entire body to balance and energize the complete
system. For a full treatment, the practitioner merely
places his or her hands on specific areas on both sides
of the body. Most will feel the hands of the practitioner
get warm or even cool depending on what is needed. As
in therapeutic touch, Reiki healing helps to balance the
energy surrounding the body but in addition Reiki helps
to balance the energy within the body and supply it with
additional life force energy as needed. The life force
energy supplied is not the practitioners. The practitioner
acts as a conduit bringing the energy in from its Source.
As with electricity, the wires and overhead lines are
bringing electricity to where it is needed. The practitioner
would be considered the wires and overhead lines to bring
in the Life Force Energy the body needs. Because the practitioner
is not using his or her own energy, Reiki can be used
for self-healing as well as healing others.
Reiki
does not take the place of medical help when illness warrants
it but Reiki helps to enhance and complement regular medical
services. Reiki is one part of an integrated healing or
wellness program.
In
times of stress or illness, Reiki can speed healing, lessen
the side effects of surgery and even the side effects
of chemotherapy. Reiki can help strenghten the immune
system, reduce pain and stress, relax muscles and help
loosen joints.
Reiki
is just one of the techniques gaining wider acceptance
both with the general public and the medical establishment.
Some hospitals are incorporating Reiki into their roster
of patient services, often with their own Reiki-trained
physicians, nurses and support staff. Clinical Trials
are now underway sponsored by the National Center for
Complementary and Alternative Medicine investigating the
use of Reiki as an approach to improve well-being for
patients with advanced AIDS and in another study to determine
if Reiki will improve glycemic control and cardiac autonomic
function in diabetic patients with painful neuropathy.

Elizabeth sadly passed away in April 2019. I am leaving her page on here as a memorial site.
